ESHHS 2019, BUDAPEST – FIRST CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

La Sociedad Europea para la Historia de las Ciencias Humanas organiza su próximo encuentro en Budapest, del 4 al 6 de julio de 2019, auspiciada por el Departamento de Ciencia Cognitiva, Central European University, en colaboración con la Academia Húngara de Ciencias.

Además de los temas relacionados con diversos aspectos teóricos y metodológicos de la historia de las ciencias humanas y sociales, este año se dará prioridad a las relaciones entre la historia del psicoanálisis y la historia social y cultural en sentido amplio, y la génesis de la infancia moderna.

Envío de abstracts hasta el 4 de marzo de 2019.

Call for Papers: next ESHHS meeting in Bari

The European Society for the History of the Human Sciences (ESHHS) invites submissions to its conference to be held from July 12 to July 14, 2017, at the Seminar for the History of Science, University of Bari ‘Aldo Moro’, Italy.

Sessions, papers, workshops, round-tables and posters may deal with any aspect of the history of the human, behavioural and social sciences or with related historiographic and methodological issues. However, this year’s conference will pay particular attention to:
– history and new trends in historiography of human sciences

– circulation and popularization of scientific knowledge
– history of the body
– comparative studies and cultural hegemonies in history of science
– laboratory science and professionalization
– theories and practices in the historical development of human sciences 

Submissions: must be received by March 17, 2017.

Please send your proposal electronically as attachment in MSWord (.doc/.docx) to each of the three members of the programme committee:

Oral presentations: send a 500-600 word abstract in English plus a short bibliography. In case your communication will be in another language, please inform the committee in order to assist you in planning linguistic support, if necessary.
Posters: send a 300 word abstract.

Proposal for a session, workshop or round-table: send a 500-600 word rationale of the event (plus a short bibliography) as well as a short abstract for each paper or intervention.

Notification of acceptance will be sent by April 30, 2017.

A limited number of travel stipends will be available to students or scholars who present a paper or a poster and need economic support. Please indicate along with your submission if you wish to be considered for this arrangement.

ESHHS Early Career Award -REMINDER

The ESHHS is formally affiliated with the Journal of the History of the Behavioral Sciences (JHBS). Together with the JHBS, the ESHHS encourages early career researchers to submit their papers for the Early Career Award. The winning paper will, after additional review by the JHBS Editorial Board, be published in JHBS with a notice indicating that it is the winner of the ESHHS Early Career Award. The Publisher will provide an honorarium of US $500 to the award recipient.

Rules and procedure

·         Any researcher in the history of the human sciences who does not hold a tenured university position (or equivalent) is eligible to be considered for the Award.

·         Those wishing to be considered must be members of ESHHS at the time of submission (an appropriately completed Membership Form may accompany a submitted paper).

·         Candidates for the Award should submit to the Programme Committee a proposal for the Annual ESHHS Conference in the usual way, to arrive by the appropriate deadline.

·         Before December 31 of each year candidates should send by e-mail a copy of their full text to Anna Borgos, Secretary of the ESHHS, borgosanna@gmail.com (please put “ESHHS ECA” in the subject line). This paper must meet the normal publishing guidelines of JHBS.

·         Candidates should indicate that they wish to be considered for the Early Career Award and provide a short CV to establish eligibility.

·         Submissions are accepted from both the current year and the previous year.

·         The Board will acknowledge receipt of applications and will confirm their eligibility.

·         By mid-March the Executive Board will announce the nominee for the award (provided there are submissions of appropriate standards).

·         The paper can be sent to JHBS any time after the announcement.

·         In any given year, in the absence of high quality submissions no award will be made.

·         If the paper is deemed acceptable by the editors of the Journal, it will be published and the honorarium will be awarded.

Encuentro conjunto de la ESHHS & CHEIRON

Poco antes del inicio de las vacaciones estivales se celebraba el congreso conjunto de la ESHHS (European Society for the History of the Human Sciences) y de la Cheiron (International Society for the History of Behavioural and Social Sciences), sociedades que cada cuatro años se reúnen, alternativamente, en uno u otro lado del Atlántico. Esta vez el encuentro ha tenido lugar en Barcelona, con un programa que ha sabido estar a la altura de los conocidos atractivos turísticos de la ciudad, y que ha logrado que nos desplazáramos cada día al campus de Bellaterra de la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (UAB), donde las sesiones tuvieron lugar. Quizá una de las primeras cuestiones a destacar sea esa: el volumen e interés del programa. Nada menos que tres mesas paralelas, distribuidas a lo largo de tres días y medio, que han podido generar alguna que otra dosis de frustración entre quienes veíamos coincidir intereses. Afortunadamente, nada que los amenos y caseros coffee breaks no hayan permitido arreglar.

La riqueza del encuentro, obviamente, fue mucho más allá de lo cuantitativo. En lo que a procedencia geográfica se refiere, más allá de los habituales colegas de EEUU y del largo y ancho de Europa, hemos podido disfrutar de una nutrida representación latinoamericana, con colegas de Brasil, Argentina o Chile, de Australia y hasta de Taiwan. En términos de contenido creo que hay que resaltar, y celebrar, la apertura de este encuentro a la historia de la ciencia en general y a la historia de las ciencias humanas, en particular. Se ha ido esta vez mucho más allá de la historia de la psicología, que ha venido ocupando, a pesar del nombre de las sociedades en cuestión, un lugar bastante preeminente. Sin duda ha jugado aquí un papel importante la figura de Annette Mülberger, principal encargada  de la organización del congreso, a la sazón actual directora del Centro de Historia de la Ciencia de la UAB (CEHIC). Estudios sobre la locura y su historia

La Universidad de Oulu (Finlandia) ha puesto en marcha una red de investigación dedicada a Estudios sobre la locura y su historia (Madness studies). Las perspectivas desde las que trabajan abarcan desde la historia de la psicología y la psiquiatría, a la psiquiatría clínica, la sociología, la antropología, filosofía o los estudios literarios. Aunque el objetivo es global, la red se centra sobre todo en el contexto europeo y nórdico.

La red, que acoge calurosamente a miembros de todo el mundo, nos invita a participar y difundir su trabajo.

A history«, premio nacional (en Finlandia) al mejor libro de no-ciencia ficción 2013.  El libro da cuenta de la locura desde la antigüedad a la modernidad, ofreciendo un paisaje tan amplio como detallado de la enfermedad mental y sus variedades en la civilización occidental. El autor examina las fuerzas sociales y culturales que dan forma a las perspectivas médicas, la invención y desarrollo de diagnósticos así como de las teorías y métodos de tratamiento y experiencias de los pacientes dentro y fuera de la institución mental. Las múltiples fuentes examinadas, desde los escritos de los  psiquiatras hasta los relatos de los pacientes hacen de este libro una obra de referencia.

 

 

 

Próximo encuentro de la European Society for the History of Human Sciences (ESHHS) 2015

Las presentaciones, posters, simposia o workshops pueden versar sobre cualquier aspecto de la historia de las ciencias sociales, humanas, del comportamiento y/o relacionadas con asuntos historiográficos y metodológicos. Este año, el congreso dedicará especial interés a temas relacionados con las fronteras disciplinares y relaciones entre disciplinas (por ejemplo, humanidades, salud y ciencias ambientales), temas relacionados con la historia y la traducción así como relacionados con la difusión y recepción de las ciencias humanas y la historia política de las ciencias humanas. En todo caso, otros temas serán igualmente bienvenidos.
